Biography
Born in 1925 in Lille, from his youth he was fond of history and after graduating from law school he studied at the Sorbonne's historical courses. The first scientific work dedicated to Napoleon and his mother was published in 1946. In 1951 he began to broadcast on radio the historical program “Tribune of History”, which went on the air until 1997. The author of more than 60 popular science books, scriptwriter of films, including the films " Angelica and the King " (1964), " Les Miserables " (1982), and " Austrian " (1990). Member of the French Academy since 1978.
He died in Paris on March 27, 2016, and was buried in Pere Lachaise cemetery .
