Jeanette Kauas ( Spanish: Parque nacional Jeanette Kawas ) is the second largest national park of Honduras , located in the department of Atlantis .

Description
Park called Punta Sal was founded on January 1, 1988 [1] . Its area is 781.62 km². The park has several different ecosystems ( tropical rain forests , mangrove forests , wetlands ), including its large lagoon Mikos (it has a triangular shape with a base length of 10 kilometers and a height of 7 kilometers). In the park there are several small villages: Barra Ulua, Creek Maria, Rio Tinto, Marion, Los Patos, El Tigre. Two more or less large rivers: the Rio Ulua and the Rio Tinto. There are no roads. Managed by PROLANSATE Foundation [2] .
On February 6, 1995, the well-known environmentalist (1946-1995) was killed, and the park was given her name. On March 28, 1995, the park was included in the Ramsar Convention [1] [3] .
On March 30, 2016, a forest fire broke out in the park that raged for three days and destroyed 412 hectares of forest.
Flora and fauna
More than 35 species of mammals, 427 bird species, 68 reptile species, 12 amphibian species, 147 insect species, including 54 ant species, live in the park. 499 plant species found. 6 species of turtles, 5 species of fish, 5 species of reptiles and 12 species of mammals, including manatee and tiger, are endangered.
The most notable animals of the park are: birds - , brown , , blue real coting , kvezal , , gold-browned organist , thrush-like cuckoo ; mammals - the American manatee , several species of prolefins and white-sided dolphins , the common Capuchin , several species of howler ; fish - several types of tarpon , , ; reptiles - pointed crocodile , Chelonioidea ( green turtle , leatherback , bissa , loggerhead ), common iguana , common boa , two-colored snake ; Arthropods - , several species of nephil orbidae .
