History
After the opening of the Ivanovo State Medical Institute (IGMI) in 1930, the question arose on the construction of new buildings for the educational institution. The regional committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and the executive committee of the regional council requested the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR to allocate 3 million rubles for the design and start of construction of the IGMI academic building. In the mid-1930s, a competition was held, the winner of which was the project of Ivanovo architect N.I. Kadnikova . In 1934, a land plot belonging to the Ivanovo Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology was transferred to the IGMI. In the spring of the same year, the first stone was laid in the foundation of the main building of the institute, however, construction began only in 1937. It was assumed that the work would be completed in 2-3 years, but the new building was partially opened only in November 1940. The corner tower and exterior decoration were completed only in 1956 after a long break [2] . The initial project involved placing sculptures of athletes, sportswomen and bas-reliefs of famous doctors on the corner tower, but this idea was abandoned during construction [3] . At the moment, the building is located Ivanovo State Medical Academy (IvSMA) .
Architecture
The composition of a three-story, L-shaped building plan (an extension on Pushkin Street was built in 1976 according to the design of V.K. Gorshkov ) is dominated by a five-story stepped corner tower. The lower tier is made as a powerful base, surrounded by a monumental colonnade with a Corinthian order . The second and third tiers of angular volume are distinguished by large windows of semicircular and rectangular shapes. Their considerable size and apparent disproportion are justified by the need for sufficient coverage of the main audience of the building with a capacity of 400-500 people [4] . The upper tier of the angular volume is decorated with double columns of the Corinthian order . It is completed by entablature and a balustrade with vases and obelisks. The entrance to the central building is decorated with a half-tonond .
Two differently designed rectangular in terms of volume adjoin the corner tower. The facade of the building along Sheremetyevsky Prospect is decorated with half columns with a Corinthian order bearing an entablature with a decorated cornice . The facade along Pushkin Street looks more modest. It is decorated with pilasters with capitals.
At the moment, the building is painted in three colors: sand yellow, white and brown. Brick walls are plastered and decorated with rustic .
