History

The name was given by the name of the profession of a tram driver in Odessa - "whatman" [1] .

It was located on the outskirts of the city, behind the tram depot No. 1 (the former Richelieu depot [2] [3] , 1910, architect L. L. Vlodek ). The nearby area - " Sakhalinchik " - got its name in the XIX century due to the collection of criminals there before sending them to the stage [4] .
