In 1777, in his work Essai d'une Lithographie de Mloс´in, Karosi gave a topographical description of the deposits near Młocina , northeast of Warsaw (now the Varashava district). In the years 1778-1780 he was in the service of the Polish king as an inspector and managing director of mines. He traveled to Poland, studying the state of the mining industry, examining mines and quarries for the extraction of minerals, as well as the products of their production. In 1779, the work “Beitra¨ge zur Naturgeschichte der Niederlausitz, inbesondere aber des Mineralreichs derselben” was published in Leipzig , in which Karosi summarized the results of the study of the mineral resources of Western Poland. In 1781 and 1784 his two-volume work “Reisen durch verschiedene polnische Provinzen, mineralischen und andern Inhalts” [2] , also published in Leipzig, was published.

During his travels in Poland, Karosi collected a collection of minerals, fossils and ores. One of the main goals of his research was the search for new sources of salt mining, since the well-known Wieliczka salt mine, when the territory of Poland was divided, in 1772 went to Austria , and the salt in Poland rose sharply. As a result of the search, Johann Karosi obtained valuable data on deposits of other minerals - copper, iron, graphite, but he did not find a new salt deposit. At the same time, in the town of Busko-Zdrój (80 km north-east of Krakow ), he discovered mineral waters with a very high content, first described them in 1781, indicating that they can serve as a source for salt. Currently, there are built sanatoriums. In 1783, the work “Sur la ge´ne´ration du silex et du quarz en partie” was published in Vienna . Observations faites en Pologne ” , in which Karosi made comments on the formation of flints and quartz on the basis of observations made by him in Poland.

Johann Philip Karosi worked with the Russian Imperial Academy of Arts and Sciences , sending packages with minerals for her Russian geologists to her address. On the submission of E. R. Dashkova, on June 5, 1786, Karosi was elected a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy.

Died August 1, 1801 in Poland, buried near Krakow. [1] According to other data, he died of cholera in 1799 and was buried in the town of Vodyany near Krakow, where his stone tombstone remained in the local park.

In 1976, Johann Karosi's letters to the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences found in the archives were published in Poland.
