Biography
The son of a protestant pastor . He studied at the monastic schools. He studied theology and history of art and painting at the Academies of Arts of Stuttgart and Konigsberg , Dresden and Tübingen .
Since 1933, a member of the NSDAP and the National Socialist Union of Teachers . In 1934, he received his doctorate at the University of Tübingen, having defended a thesis on the theme “Sculpture of the Renaissance and Early Baroque in New Castile”. He worked in schools as an art critic. Printed in the magazines of the Third Reich.
Member of the Second World War. In 1939-1945 - Wehrmacht officer, pilot . At the end of the war he was captured in Italy.
After his release he worked as an artist. Since 1956 - member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
Since 1962 he taught at the Higher School of Pedagogy in Reutlingen. He was a teacher of poetics at the University of Munich .
Creativity
In 1941 he published a collection of poems "Heavenly Riders" ("Reiter am Himmel") about German military pilots.
The author of novels about the last days of the Second World War.
