Sports Biography
Jean Rossius began his professional career as a cyclist in 1913 as part of the Alcyon team, one of the leading cycling teams of his time. Five times became the winner of the stages of the prestigious Tour de France cycle race: in 1914 second and ninth stages, the first stage in 1919 , the seventh and fifteenth stages in 1920 . In 1914, despite the fact that in the first race Rossius came to the finish line simultaneously with Philip Tees , the leader was recorded Tees. The second stage Tees and Rossius also passed with the same time, and up to the sixth stage both of them were listed as leaders of the general classification, after which Rossius lost the sole leadership to Tees [1] . In 1919, Rossius won the first stage, but because of the designated 30-minute penalty [2] he did not succeed in leading the general classification: it was headed by the Frenchman Henri Pelissier , who showed the second time in the race. Jean Rossius was recorded three times in the final classification of the Tour de France: in fourth place in 1914, in seventh in 1920 and in ninth in 1922 .
In the monumental classics, Rossius did not win, but nevertheless, several times won high places: in the Liège - Bastogne - Liège race in 1911 he reached the finish line in sixth place, in third place in 1921, in second in 1923. On Tours, Flanders was seventh in 1923, and in the Paris race - Roubaix fifth in 1913, seventh in 1919 and second in 1922.
In other classic races, the results were similar: in the Paris-Tour race , he was sixth in 1913, third in 1919, fifth in 1920, fourth in 1922 and fifth in 1925. In the Paris-Brussels race , it was sixth in 1913 and fourth in 1914, and was seventh in the Criterium de Paris in 1923. Ranked third in the GP Wolber race in 1923.
He was the winner of the Belgian championship in the class of road racing 1919, took 2-3 places in 1913 (ten more riders were awarded these same places with Rossius), was fourth in 1922 and tenth in 1923.
