Biography
William Ellison was born on June 7, 1852 in Dublin ( Ireland , then in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland ), in the family of and Elizabeth Phoebe Ellison, born Porter ( née Porter ). In 1859, his father changed his last name to a double - Ellison-Macartney ( Ellison-Macartney ), since this was a condition for receiving an inheritance from his maternal uncle [1] . William Ellison-Macartney studied at Eton College and later at Oxford University [1] [2] .
In 1885-1903, William Ellison-Macartney was a member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from South Antrim (southern Antrim County ). In 1895–1900, he also served as British Admiralty [1] [2] .
In 1897, William Ellison-Macartney married Ettie Myers Scott, sister of polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott , who later had two daughters and one son. [1]
In 1903–1913, Allison-Macartney was the Deputy Chief of the . In December 1912 he became the commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George ( KCMG ) [1] .
In 1913, William Ellison-Macartney’s political career began in Australia . In June 1913, he was appointed governor of Tasmania , and worked in this position until March 1917 [1] . Then he was appointed governor of Western Australia , and was in this position from April 1917 to April 1920 [1] [3] .
In 1920, William Ellison-Macartney moved back to England. He died in Chelsea (London, England) on December 4, 1924 at the age of 72 [1] .
