Ershov, Nikolai Evgenievich

Nikolai Yevgenievich Ershov (1892-1928) - Soviet military leader, ensign (1916) of the Russian Imperial Army, military leader of the October armed uprising in Kazan. The chief (commander) of the Kazan Military District (November 1917 - May 1918).

Biography

Nikolai Ershov was born in the family of a rural tailor. After graduating from a commercial school in Saratov, he entered the economic department of the Moscow Commercial Institute.

At the end of the second year, in the summer of 1916 he was mobilized and sent to the Moscow school of ensigns. In November he was sent to Petrograd.

He was at the center of the turbulent revolutionary events of 1917. School for political education for him was a service in the 1st machine gun regiment.

In the July events, machine gunners took an active part in the demonstration of workers and collectively refused to be sent to the front. As a result, the regiment was disbanded, soldiers and officers were sent to different cities. Nikolai was in Kazan in the second division of the reserve artillery brigade.

Here Nikolai became close to the revolutionary-minded gunners. Speaking at military rallies and meetings, he manifests himself as a good orator. Nikolay is elected deputy chairman of the soldiers section of the Kazan Council. And when on August 31, 1917 the leadership in the Council passed to the Bolsheviks, he became its chairman of the executive committee and the head of the Bolshevik military organization.

On behalf of the Kazan Committee of the Bolsheviks, Nikolai Ershov headed the military revolutionary headquarters. On the afternoon of October 24, a detachment of cadets with armored cars moved to the location of the first artillery battalion on the Arsk Field, but was greeted by fire. At this time, Red Guard detachments and rebel regiments joined the battle. Acting on the developed plan, they advanced from the outskirts, working settlements to the city center, compressing the main enemy resistance points into a ring. The last stronghold of the old regime - the Kremlin fell on the night of October 26.

After the victory of the armed uprising, N. Ye. Ershov is elected commander of the Kazan Military District and is a member of the Revolutionary Committee.

In early 1918, Nikolai Ershov participated in the defeat of the rebellion of chieftain Dutov. In the future - a participant in the Civil War in Siberia and the Far East, since February 1918 a member of Central Siberia (CEC Councils of Siberia - the highest body of Soviet power in Siberia). In the summer of 1918, he was a member of the Trans-Baikal Military Revolutionary Headquarters for Combating Ataman Semenov’s detachments. After the fall of Soviet power in Siberia, in the fall of 1918 - in the partisan detachments. In 1919 - chief of the underground operational headquarters for the preparation of an armed uprising against invaders and whites in Blagoveshchensk . In 1920-1921 - regiment commander.

Since 1923, Ershov - in the organs of the OGPU , worked as an economist.

In 1928 he died in a car accident. N. Ye. Ershov is buried in Moscow, at the New Don cemetery.

Memory

In Kazan there is a street named after Nikolai Ershov . And in the square on Ershov Street in 1967 a monument-bust to the revolutionary was erected.
