Biography

Brother of violinist Eduardas Digris. In 1952 - 1957 he studied at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory (piano class G. Ginzburg, organ class A. F. Gedike ). In 1960 he graduated from the graduate school in piano (G. Ginzburg), in 1961 - in the organ class ( L. I. Roizman ). In 1960 - 2001 he taught at the Lithuanian Conservatory (since 1992, the Lithuanian Academy of Music); professor ( 1983 ). In 1969 and 1976 he trained at the J. Reinberger Academy of Musical Arts in Prague . He was a member of the jury of international organ competitions in Lithuania and abroad. Held over two thousand concerts of organ music (works by classical and contemporary composers).

The author of the book “Kaip groti vargonais” (“How to play the organ”; 1998).

He toured in Finland , Sweden , Switzerland , Norway , Denmark , Belgium , France , Germany , Czech Republic , Slovakia , Israel . Member of international festivals in Venice, Salzburg , Ravenna , Gottingen , Bremen , Leipzig , Tel Aviv and other cities.

He initiated the restoration of the training of organists at the conservatory in 1962 and organ festivals in Vilnius since 1968 ). At his suggestion, the Čiurlionis pianist competition was expanded in 1968 to the pianite and organist competition.

On his initiative, new organs were established in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society , Vilnius Cathedral of St. Stanislav and St. Bishop Vladislav , the Church of St. Casimir and the Church of the Holy Cross (bonifratra) in Vilnius, in the Lithuanian Academy of Music . Pupils: I. Budrite, G. Lukshaite-Mrazkov, V. Survilaite, B. Vaitkus, B. Vasiliauskas.
