The center of the aiyl okrug is the village of Ananyevo (formerly Sazanovka; from 1871 to 1942). From 1930 to 1971, the village was the district center of the Issyk-Kul region of the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz SSR , after 1971 the city of Cholpon-Ata became the district center.
