David Royston Bailey CBE ( born David Royston Bailey ; born January 2, 1938) is an English fashion and portrait photographer [4] [5] .

Biography
Born in 1938 in East London in the family of tailor Herbert Bailey and his wife Sharon, who worked as a train engineer [6] . From the age of 3, he and his family lived in the East Ham area [7] .
At school, David was fond of natural history, this was the beginning of an interest in photography. He suffered from dyslexia , which caused many problems in learning and communicating with peers. He graduated from Clark College in Ilford . In addition to dyslexia, Bailey also has dyspraxia of a mental disorder (developmental coordination disorder).
In 1959, Bailey became an assistant photographer at John French Studio, and in May 1960 he got a job at John Five Cole. In the same year, was invited to the British Vogue magazine [8] . He also conducted a huge number of freelance work [9] .
Together with Terence Donovan and Brian, Duffy Bailey became one of the main photographers of the Swinging London era of the 1960s.
Perhaps the prototype of the protagonist of the " Magnification " Antonioni [10] . Although called and Bert Stern .
He was associated with many years of collaboration with the popular model Gene Shrimpton [9] .
He was married four times. Bailey's most famous marriages are with French actress Catherine Deneuve (from 1965 to 1972) and British fashion model Mary Helvin (from 1975 to 1986). He has three children. Son Sasha (born 1994) is an actor and curator of art.
In 2005, the work of David Bailey was awarded the Medal and Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society [11] . In 2016, the International Center for Photography in New York [12] [13] marked him with his award.
