Nikifor Vlemmid ( Greek Νικηφόρος Βλεμμύδης ; 1197 , Constantinople , Byzantium - 1272 , near Ephesus ) - a Byzantine church and political figure, theologian , encyclopedic scholar, natural philosopher , poet . The great writer of the Nicene Empire.

Biography
Born in Constantinople in a family of doctors. After the conquest of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204, he fled to Nicaea , where he studied philosophy, theology and medicine. After graduation, he was ordained. He became a priest .
He lived most of his life in Nicaea, first at the imperial court, then from 1248 in a monastery near Ephesus , in which he ended his days. He wrote a lot in the monastery, founded a school in which he himself was engaged in teaching students arithmetic, geometry of plane and spherical bodies, optics, astronomy, logic, syllogistics and medicine. He was a teacher of Theodore II Laskaris and George the Acropolis . After the emperor John III Duka Vatats returned to the European provinces of the empire, N. Wlemmid was sent on a manuscript search mission for the library founded by the emperor in his Asian capital
His love for books and scientific research was so great that he refused the offer to take the patriarchal throne .
He took an active part in theological disputes between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Western Roman Catholic Church .
The literary heritage of N. Vlemmid is extensive, both in the number of works written by him and in the breadth of the areas of knowledge affected.
The theses on the Holy Trinity and the economy of God the Word, and On the Exodus of the Holy Spirit are devoted to questions of theology. N. Vlemmid commented on the Holy Scriptures , wrote canons and prayers . The most famous philosophical work of the author is his guide to logic and physics .
The work of N. Vlemmida “Abridged Logic” is a collection of data from various sciences - philosophy, logic, rhetoric and grammar. N. Vlemmid was also engaged in a lot of natural sciences - physics , medicine , alchemy . N. Wlemmid is credited with compiling the “Selected Psalms” to the greats. Peru N. Wlemmida has two autobiographies and many secular poems.
In 1255, N. Vlemmid became the patriarch of Nicaea. He described his life in an autobiography against the backdrop of contemporary political events.
