Prasonisi [1] [2] ( Greek Πρασονήσι from πράσινο νησί is a green island) is a cape in Greece in the Karpathos Strait [2] , washed by the Cretan and Libyan seas, the southwestern tip of Rhodes . It is an island in the summer with a low water level connected by a sandy isthmus with Rhodes. It is located 91 kilometers southwest of the city of Rhodes , 12 kilometers south of the village of Katavia ( Κατταβία ) and 40 kilometers southwest of Lindos .

In the southwestern part in the place of Prasonision ( Πρασονήσιον [3] ) or Faros ( Φάρος [3] ) is a lighthouse built in 1890 and reconstructed in 1996.
There is a beach on Prasonisi. Prasonisi is popular among fans of kitesurfing and windsurfing [4] [5] .
Vegetation is represented by maquis [5] .
History
2 kilometers northeast of Prasonision is Vrulya ( Βρουλιά ), a settlement that existed in the geometric period , 650-550 BC. e. [6] [7]
In 1306, the hospitaliers landed on the island and in 1309 occupied the city of Rhodes. On Prasonisi was one of the 16 towers of the hospitaliers on Rhodes.
Catavia Community
The local community of Catavia is part of the Rhodes community, includes four settlements [3] . The population of 307 inhabitants according to the 2011 census [3] . The area is 97.35 square kilometers [9] .
