History
On October 2, 1863, the Medal of Exemplary Behavior ( port. Comportamento Exemplar ) was established by decree of the Secretary of State for War, as the third of the three classes of the Military Medal .
The design of the medal was changed in 1917 , 1921 , 1946 .
On May 28, 1946 , in accordance with Decree No. 35667, the medal became an independent award.
Regulation
The medal is designed to reward soldiers for impeccable service, discipline and true spirit of loyalty.
The medal consists of three classes. When awarded, the class awarded is determined by the military rank of the award:
- Golden - is given to officers whose record of service is thirty years and more effective military service, during which the award was never subjected to criminal or disciplinary punishment and always showed persistent zeal for service and a high sense of virtue, obedience and military discipline.
- Silver - is awarded to officers whose record of service is at least fifteen years old, which has never been subjected to criminal or disciplinary punishment.
- Bronze - awarded to officers, officers, sergeants and privates who complete six-year effective military service and have never been subjected to criminal or disciplinary punishment.

Round medal with a ring for attachment to the chest strap made of metal of the appropriate class.
The obverse is a bust profile portrait of the Portuguese king with a corresponding inscription on the edge of the medal (for example: "D. LUIZ I. REI DE PORTUGAL. 1863").
The reverse - in the center in the laurel wreath is the inscription: in two lines “COMPORTAMENTO EXEMPLAR”, on the edge of the medal is the inscription: “MEDALHA MILITAR”.
Type from 1917 to 1921
Round medal with a ring for attachment to the chest strap made of metal of the appropriate class.
The obverse is in the center a female bust profile in the Phrygian cap (the personification of the republic. On the sides of the profile there is an inscription: “REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA”. On the edge of the medal is a wreath of laurel branches tied at the bottom with a ribbon.
The reverse - in the center in the laurel wreath is the inscription: “COMPORTAMENTO EXEMPLAR”, on the edge of the medal is the inscription: “MEDALHA MILITAR”.

The obverse is in the center a female bust portrait in full face in a Phrygian cap (the personification of the republic), on the sides of which is the inscription: “REPUBLICA” and “PORTUGUESA”.
The reverse is a slightly shifted image of the goddess Nika with a palm branch in her hand and a trumpet in the forge, to the left of which is an inscription in four lines: “MEDALHA / MILITAR / COMPORTAMENTO / EXEMPLAR” and below the year “1910”.

The obverse in the center bears the average national emblem of Portugal from which the inscription: “COMPORTAMENTO” and “EXEMPLAR” are around the right and left. On the edge of the medal is edged with a wreath of olive leaves with fruits, below is a bow that goes beyond the edges of the circle.

In the center, from behind the edge, there is an outgoing armor in armor, holding a horizontal sword with the hilt to the left and the key, ring to the right. Above the arms is a coat of arms with small shields and besantami. Along the rim is the inscription: "PORTUGUES NOS FEITOS E NAPLEALDADE."

Ribbon medals silk moire green with four equal white stripes. An overlay in the form of an average state emblem made of metal corresponding to the class is attached to the ribbon of gold and silver classes.
