Globe, Peter Wilhelm

Peter Wilhelm Globe , also known as P.V. Globe ( February 20, 1911 - July 20, 1985 ), a Danish archaeologist, worked as the general director of the Danish Antiquities Museum in and was also director of the National Museum in Copenhagen .

Biography and scientific activities

He gained fame thanks to the studies of Danish swamp people , such as a man from Tollund and a man from Groboll , the mummified remains of people of the Iron and Bronze Ages , found preserved in peat bogs. Among his works on anthropology, the following publications stand out:

The Bog People: Iron Age Man Preserved ; Denmark: An Archaeological History from the Stone Age to the Vikings; Mound People: Danish Bronze-Age Man Preserved.

He was co-founder of the Nordic Institute of Comparative Vandalism , an institute that studies the history of graffiti . Globe was the son of Danish artist Johannes Globe and the father of Danish ceramic artist Lotte Globe , artist Anders Globe . His most famous study was The Man from Tollund .

Globe was also interested in the archeology of the Middle East and led several scientific expeditions. They have been described as one of the largest scientific cross-border expeditions from Denmark for the entire existence of Danish archeology [3] .
