Biography
Hunger was born in Vienna . From 1956 to 1962 he was the director of the papyrus department of the Austrian National Library. From 1973 to 1982, he held two consecutive terms as president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . He founded and headed the first Byzantine school in Austria. He died in Vienna in 2000, was buried in the central cemetery.
