Biography
After the coup on December 2, 1851, he emigrated to France in Argentina and settled in Buenos Aires .
He was engaged in geological research in the province of Entre Rios , the basin of the Parana and Rio de la Plata , the area of Bahia Blanca , pampas . The author of the geological topography of Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires (1857), geological maps of the surroundings of the Sierra del Tandil and Sierra de la Ventana hills ( Tres Picos peak, 1243 m).
In 1852, President H. de Urquis appointed him Inspector General of Argentine Mining Enterprises.
At the same time he was engaged in paleontology. He excavated and studied fossils of mammals , some of which, like the skull of Mesotherium (Mesotherium), were sent to him at the National Museum of Natural History (Paris) . The Pleistocene- era mammalian fossils purchased from the British Museum in 1854 are now in the Museum of Natural History in South Kensington ( London ). The author of the name Prototypeoteria , a genus of extinct mammals of the Interatheriidae family of the order of notungulates that lived in the South America in the Miocene , whose genesis can be traced back to the Paleocene .
He is the founder of the National Museum of Natural History in Parana ., Supported geological theories that contradict the ideas of Charles Darwin .
In 1861, he was sent by the Argentine government to study the area near the cities of San Juan and Mendoza at the foot of the Andes , where he died tragically during an earthquake.
The collection of fossils he has collected is now in the Buenos Aires Public Museum.
