Biography

Andrei Afanasevich was born on July 19, 1921 in a peasant family. During the Great Patriotic War he served in the troops of the Far Eastern Front in the Sungarii direction .

In 1951, Andrei Afanasevich Zimovnov graduated in absentia from the history department of the Rostov Pedagogical Institute and the Rostov Higher Party School. He was at party work. He worked as the director of the Rostov Regional Bookstore (1961-1962), the assistant to the chairman of the regional executive committee (1962-1965), the director of the Rostov Museum of Local Lore (1967-1971), the museum-reserve in the village of Starocherkasskaya (1970-1983).

In 1965, Andrei Afanasevich worked as a correspondent for the newspaper Pravda and was invited to become Mikhail Sholokhov 's personal assistant (secretary) ( January 1965 - June 1967 ; 1972-1977). M.A. Sholokhov appreciated the professional and personal qualities of Andrei Afanasevich Zimovnov, warmly treated him. Andrei Afanasevich accompanied M.A. Sholokhov on trips around the USSR , as well as abroad ( Hungary , 1965 ).

While working as an assistant Sholokhov Zimovnov A.A. He kept diary entries reflecting the events of the writer's personal life, his foreign trips, interviews with reporters, and conversations with relatives and village residents. In 1999, Andrei Afanasevich Zimovnov published them in the book “Sholokhov in life. Secretary’s Diary Notes. ”

After the death of Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov, Andrei Afanasevich became one of the initiators of the creation of the Sholokhov State Museum-Reserve .

Archive of Andrei Afanasevich Zimovnov, in which, in addition to his notebooks, there are letters to the writer, rare photographs (more than 700 items in total), in 2009 was transferred to the Sholokhov State Museum-Reserve . Unique documents are stored in the archive, for example, a letter by L.I. Brezhnev to Sholokhov on December 12, 1966 :
