History

Known since 1824 (Kherson street). In the house of Ivan Riznich , the husband of Karolina Sobanskaya ’s sister, Pushkin visited. The house of I. Yu. Fundukley (preserved on Pasteur Street, 42) was the residence of Governor General M.S. Vorontsov .

In the 1900s, clinics of the University’s medical faculty appeared here, gracefully inscribed among the greenery by the architect Nikolai Tolvinsky , and earlier a bacteriological station. But the beginning of this “biomedical complex” back in 1808 was the city hospital - a monumental building with powerful columns, which alone should inspire faith in doctors and healing. The great surgeon Nikolai Pirogov , his younger colleague Nikolai Sklifosovsky , worked here, and the architect Thomas Thomon designed the hospital building.

On October 16, 1903, a play based on the play by Leo Tolstoy's “ Fruits of Enlightenment ”) opened a theater on the street, built at the expense of Alexander Sibiryakov ; [1] later was called the Ukrainian Musical Drama Theater. In 1920 - 1926, Alexander Marinesco studied at labor school No. 36 (now school No. 105, 17 Pastera Street).

In 1923, the street was renamed in honor of the French microbiologist and chemist Louis Pasteur . Moysha Oks [3] , Isaak Babel , and Zhenya Kataev visited House 56, which was designed as a provincial police department, and where it was located in the 1920s.

On the plaques installed on the street, the names of the microbiologist Nikolai Gamalei , Ivan Mechnikov, Grigory Pozhenyan [4] , sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko [5] , Nikolai Pirogov, Nikolai Sklifosovsky, therapist academician Mikhail Yasinovsky [6] , reconnaissance sailors. On some facades, author's inscriptions are preserved - the names of architects, and in the lattice of balconies and gates are woven with cast-iron figures of the year they were built.

September 1, 2010 in Odessa , in the courtyard of house number 46 on Pasteur Street, a monument to KK Kostandi was unveiled [8] .
