Biography

The son of a businessman. From childhood, he listened with enthusiasm to stories about the history of his native country, about adventures, travelers, gypsies and other people who stood out from the crowd. Young men traveled around Jutland for the affairs of his father. A talented draftsman, Brosböll was enrolled in the Danish Royal Academy of Arts , but in the end he preferred to get a degree at the university and tied up with drawing classes (1844). During the First War for Schleswig in 1848, he fought in the ranks of the Danish army. In 1853 he became an employee of the Royal Danish Library , where he worked until 1885, after which he left the service due to poor health and spent time traveling to the south of Europe, especially to Corsica .

The first wife of the writer was Hansina Erasmina Torbjørnsen (married in 1851), with whom he later divorced and in 1888 married Olga Augusta Schulz.

Creativity

Brosbell began his career by printing short stories and poems in Danish literary magazines. In 1839, he published his first novel, “The Son of a Smuggler,” and then he first used the pseudonym Karit Etlar, under which he went down in history.

Karit Etlar was the creator of a large number of works, mainly in the genre of adventure literature, in which a fascinating story, built around charismatic heroes, unfolds against the backdrop of Danish landscapes and Danish realities, and is riddled with patriotic motifs.

Like his contemporary, Sten Stensen Bleicher, Karit Etlar was a native of Jutland and described her splendidly. In popularity among the Danish public, during his lifetime, he was inferior only to Ingemann [2] .

Memory and influence

The writer's works were filmed in Denmark six times, from 1910 to 1992. A memorial plaque is installed on the house in Fredericia, where the writer was born.

Creativity of Karita Etlara in Russia

In Russia, Karit Etlar is known, first of all, for the novel “Sven, the leader of the Engs”, describing the biography of Sven Poulsen , the Danish national hero of the Danish-Swedish wars of the 17th century.
