History
The castle was built by the Irish Bissett Glenarm family around 1250 on the site of the more ancient castle of Curran. Then the castle was rebuilt in 1500. On the map of 1610, the castle was called Korain.
In 1315, Edward Bruce , the supreme king of Ireland, landed here with an army of 6,000 soldiers and began a campaign to liberate Ireland from British rule. He was greeted by the owners of the castle - the Bissett family. Queen Elizabeth I believed that this castle was of strategic importance, so she ordered Sir Moises Hill to capture and hold the castle in 1569. In 1597, the castle was captured by the McDonnell clan. In 1598, it was dismantled.
The current Alderflit castle was built around 1612. In 1621, it was donated to Sir Arthur Chichester and remained the property of the Chichester family until the 19th century. In 1823, William Agnew rented the castle. Then, in 1865, the castle was bought by James Chine. Then the castle was abandoned, in 1938 the state took the ruins under protection.
From the castle there was a four-story square tower with loopholes and a basement. Walls over 1 meter thick.
