Biography

Born into a Jewish family. He studied at Reformed higher schools in Debrecen and Pest . He studied law at the University of Pest . He gained fame as a journalist and novelist . Particularly famous A. brought generalizing work "History of the Hungarian peasantry." A. one of the first among Hungarian historians made the peasantry the subject of historical analysis, tried to comprehend and describe the forms of struggle of peasants against the tightening of seignorial dependence.

Scientific activity

Since the late 1870s, he devoted himself to the study of the economic and social history of Hungary in the 16th – 18th centuries.

The author of works on the socio-economic history of feudal Hungary, the history of finance under the reign of Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg , on the economic situation of the nobility of the 16th century, the demography of Hungary at the beginning of the 18th century, wrote the 5th volume “History of the Division of Hungary into 3 Parts, 1526-1608” for the 10-volume History of the Hungarian Nation, edited by C. Siladi.

Its merit lies in establishing the predominant role of large land tenure in Hungary of the 16th century ("Land tenure in Hungary 1494-1598", 1894, etc.).

The result of many years of research was "The History of the Hungarian Serf Peasantry" (1906, reprinted 1948, 1950; Slovak lane 1955, Russian lane 1956). Particularly famous I. Achadi brought generalizing work "History of the Hungarian peasantry." He was one of the first among Hungarian historians to make the peasantry the subject of historical analysis, trying to comprehend and describe the forms of struggle of peasants against the tightening of seignorial dependence.

He also owns several general works on the history of Hungary: “The History of Hungary during the period of its division into three parts” (“Magyarország három részre oszlásának története. 1526-1608”, 1897), “The History of Hungary during the reign of Leopold I and Joseph I” ( Magyarország története I. Lipót és I. József koraban, 1657-1711, 1898), The History of the Hungarian Empire (A magyar birodalom története, K. 1-2, 1903-1904).
