Daniel Cady Eaton ( 1834-1895 ) is an American botanist , specialist in fern plants, and the first professor of botany at Yale College. Grandson of the botanist Amos Eaton .

Biography
Born September 12, 1834 in Fort Gracet in eastern Michigan . He studied at Yale College , at that time he began to observe the local fern flora, began to correspond with researchers of the flora of the region. After graduating from college in 1857, he entered Harvard University .
He graduated from Harvard University in 1860, in qualifying work prepared descriptions of ferns based on samples collected by Charles Wright in Cuba and August Fendler in Venezuela.
He served in the Union Army during the Civil War . Since 1864, Eaton was a professor of botany at Yale College.
In 1866 he married Caroline Ketchum.
Eaton's most famous work is Ferns of North America (1877-1880), which contains descriptions and color illustrations of 149 species.
He died on June 29, 1895 .
