Biography
Born in 1909 in the village of Seyidkend, Elizavetpol district, Elizavetpol province (now Dashkesan district of Azerbaijan).
Since 1937, the worker, head of the department, the chief agronomist of the Nizami grape farm in Kirovabad, since 1964, an entomologist and agronomist. In 1949 he received a grape crop of 185.2 centners per hectare on an area of 20.7 hectares. Avakyan, as an agronomist, was worried about the low grape harvests on the state farm. It turned out that low yields are the result of strong sparse plantings, weak growth of bushes and short pruning. Since 1947, in addition to the usual types of fertilizers, Avakyan began to use feces, which were applied to the soil in the spring at the rate of 25 tons per hectare. In addition, the vineyards began to receive flight nitrogen supplementation.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 4, 1950 , for receiving high grape yields in irrigated vineyards in 1949, Avakyan Grigory Vartazarovich was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal " Hammer and Sickle ."
He actively participated in the public life of Azerbaijan. Member of the CPSU since 1931 .
