Sentence
A native of the Pakistani province of Punjab [3] , a member of the Catholic community. He was engaged in the supply of cosmetics and perfumes to the stores of Karachi [1] .
In 2006, Kamar David sent an SMS message to local resident Muhammad Khurshid [4] , who considered himself offended and turned to the police. Having assessed the content of the communication, the investigation concluded that David violated the provisions of the blasphemy law and detained him. During interrogation, the detainee stated that he was prompted by this constant persecution of Christians in various cities of Pakistan. David’s lawyers said the criminal case was fabricated by his rivals.
In February 2010, a Karachi court found David guilty of blasphemy and sentenced him to life imprisonment [2] . During his imprisonment, David twice appealed to the Pakistan Human Rights Commission, accusing the police of torture and expressing fears for his life and the life of his loved ones [5] .
Camar David was hospitalized after complaining of severe chest pain and died on March 15, 2011 at the age of 57. His lawyer, Aslam Chaudhry, claimed that his client was healthy and suggested that David might have been killed. Andrew Johnston of Christian Solidarity Around the World called for an independent investigation into David’s death.
