Zouar [1] [2] ( fr. Zouar ) is a small town and suprefecture in Chad , located in the Tibesti region . It is the administrative center of the Department of Western Tibesti .

Geographical position
The city is located in the northwestern part of Chad, on the southwestern edge of the Tibesti plateau, at an altitude of 764 meters above sea level [3] . Zuar is located at a distance of approximately 933 kilometers northeast (NNE) from the country's capital N'Djamena .
Climate
The climate of the city is characterized as arid hot ( BWh in the Köppen climate classification ). The level of precipitation falling during the year is extremely low (the average annual amount is 34 mm). The average annual temperature is 23.8 ° C [4] .
History
In the period from 1917 [5] to 1960, the city was under the control of France .
Population
According to the 2009 official census, the Zuar population was 6432 people (3489 men and 2943 women). Children under the age of 15 years accounted for 13% of the total number of city residents [6] .
