Dmitry Vasilievich Gusev (1845, Ivanovyrs village, Penza province [1] - October 19, 1894, Kazan ) is an extraordinary professor at the Kazan Theological Academy , a Christian writer, theologian, pathologist , and state counselor .

Biography
Born in the family of a psalmist of the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin [2] . He graduated from the Penza Theological College . From 1860 he studied at the Penza Theological Seminary , which he graduated in 1866. In the same year he entered the Kazan Theological Academy, graduated in 1870 (XIII course). At the same course at the academy together with Gusev studied: F. A. Kurganov , A. V. Vadkovsky , M. I. Bogoslovsky , N. P. Ostroumov , N. F. Krasnoseltsev , Krylov, Alexander , V. A. Kurganov . Since November 20, 1870, Gusev served as assistant professor of the Kazan Theological Academy of the Department of Patrology. At the same time, he taught at the Kazan Junker Infantry School . In April 1871, Gusev defended his master's thesis, "Heresy of the Antitrinitarians of the Third Century." On September 2, 1879, Gusev entered into a second marriage with Vera Andreevna, daughter of Andrei Yasnitsky, archpriest of the Kazan Georgian Church. Their family was included in the 3rd part of the noble genealogy of the Kazan province by the definition of the Kazan noble assembly of deputies from 12/15/1899, approved by decree of Heroldia from 10/23/1900. From June 1878 to January 1882, Dmitry Vasilievich Gusev was a member of the commission of the Kazan Theological Academy to explain unintelligible words and expressions in the prophetic books of the Holy Scriptures. Since May 1885, Gusev is an extraordinary professor. Gusev is the founder of the Kazan school of pathology. He influenced the formation of the scientific views and interests of L. I. Pisarev , P. P. Ponomarev , Archpriest N. P. Vinogradov , P. P. Mironositsky , A. N. Potekhin , A. I. Druzhinin , N. V. Petrova and others. Gusev was one of the first to see the talent and “outstanding philosophical and theological development” of V. I. Nesmelov . Nesmelov considered himself a student of Gusev. Most of Gusev’s writings were published after his death. In 1895-1899, under the editorship of A.N. Potekhin, “Readings on patrology” were published — the first systematic course (after the composition of the Chernigov Archbishop Filaret (Gumilevsky) “The Historical Doctrine of the Church Fathers”), which was widely used and used as a study guide in all theological academies. At a one-year act at the Kazan Theological Academy in 1886, Dmitry Vasilievich Gusev delivered an act speech “Apology of the Face of Jesus Christ and His Earthly Life and Activities in Origen's composition“ Against Celsus “”. Gusev was the initiator of the translation of this work and began to write a preface and commentary on the text, but did not have time to realize his plan. His work was continued by Pisarev .
Died in Kazan, buried in Arskoye cemetery .
