South III de Candandain ( Hugues III de Campdavaine ) (d. 1145) - Earl of Saint Paul from 1130.

He was born about 1090 (not later than 1095) of the year. Son of the South II de Candandain and Elisenda de Pontieux.

During the feudal war with the clan Colle, on August 28, 1131, he attacked the abbey of Saint-Riquier and organized a massacre there. The abbot complained to Archbishop Reims, who anathematized South III. The interdict was confirmed by Pope Innocent II .

He received papal absolution in 1137 after he funded the founding of three abbeys: Serkan, Clerkan and Urkan.

In 1140, entered into an alliance with the Count of Hainaut and opposed the Count of Flanders Thierry of Alsace , but was defeated.

From the first wife, whose name and origin are not known, South III had two daughters:

  • Angelica (Angelina), wife of Anselm de Uden
  • Adelais, possibly - the wife of Robert le Roux, Syrah de Bethune, mother of Jean III de Bethune - Bishop of Cambrai.

Second wife (1128) - Margarita de Clermont, daughter of Renault II , Count of Clermont-en-Bovezi, widow of Charles , Count of Flanders. From her sons Raul and Guy. Other children mentioned below may be from her or from her first wife:

  • Angeran, Count de Saint-Paul
  • South died in 1150 childless
  • Anselm , Comte de Saint-Paul
  • Raul, mind. April 4, 1162
  • Gee
  • Beatrix, wife of Robert de Coucy.
