Esperanto (virus)

Esperanto ( Esperanto.4733 ) - a computer virus that appeared in 1997, named after the language of Esperanto . The name of the virus was chosen by the author because it resembles a language by its ability to work on different platforms. This is the first cross-platform virus for DOS , Windows and Mac OS . The similarity between the language and the virus is also manifested in the fact that the last is activated on the day the language is published ( July 26 ).

The virus was first detected in November 1997. Its code of 4,733 bytes allows you to infect computers on MS-DOS , Windows 95 , Windows NT , and Mac OS . Infection can occur through a file with the .exe or .com extension on the PC or through executable files on Mac OS . Although the virus infects both platforms, the transmission of the virus from one to the other cannot occur due to errors in the code. The only way to transmit the virus is to copy it directly.

Esperanto is activated every year on July 26th . This is the day when in 1887 Zammengof published the first copy of the work “ The First Book ”, that is, when the language became publicly available. If the system is running, on this day the virus displays messages in English (left) and Esperanto (right):

[Esperanto, by Mister Sandman / 29A] Never mind your culture / Ne gravas via kulturo, Esperanto will go beyond it / Esperanto preterpasos ĝin; never mind the differences / ne gravas la diferencoj, Esperanto will overcome them / Esperanto superos ilin. Never mind your processor / Ne gravas via procesoro, Esperanto will work in it / Esperanto funkcios sub ĝi; never mind your platform / Ne gravas via platformo, Esperanto will infect it / Esperanto infektos ĝin. Now not only a human language, but also a virus ... Turning impossible into possible, Esperanto.

According to the text, we can assume that Mister Sandman (the creator of the virus) is an Esperantist who distributes Esperanto ads in such an unfair way.
