Valatka, Rimvydas

Rimvydas Valatka was born on December 19, 1956 in the village of Shamanka. In 1975 he graduated from high school in Palanga . In 1980 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Vilnius State Pedagogical Institute, with a degree in history teacher.

From 1978 to 1987 he worked at the Laboratory of Vilnius State Pedagogical Institute and at the same time was the editor of the newspaper Taribinis Pedagogas Pedagogas (“Soviet Teacher”). From 1982 to 1983 he worked as a correspondent for Valstečiu Lycrastis (Peasant Newspaper). From 1983 to 1987 he worked in the information department of the newspaper Tesa (Pravda). In 1987-1990, he worked as deputy chief editor of the weekly Gimtasis kraštas. In 1989, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Union of Journalists of Lithuania ^[4] .

From 1990 to 1991 he worked as the editor of the weekly Atgimimas (Renaissance). From 1990 to 1992 he was a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania .

In 1992, he was a candidate for the Sejm of the Republic of Lithuania. From 1992 to 2012, he was deputy editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Lietuvos Rytas, as well as editor of the internet portal lrytas.lt. From 2012 to 2015, he worked as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper and the news portal “15 min.” From 2015 to 2016, he worked as editor and director of the Vejdas magazine. In 2017, he received the post of chief editor of the ELTA news agency, but after working there one day, he decided to leave this post ^[5] . Valatka also runs weekly programs on the Info TV channel and on the Ziniu radijas radio station ^[1] .
