At the end of August 1793, after the fall of Valenciennes , the 45,000th Austrian army of Prince Coburg was sent to Kenua, where a five thousandth French garrison was locked up under the command of Brigadier General [2] .

The siege of Le Kenois was entrusted to Austrian General Francois Sebastian Carl Joseph Klerfe , and its cover was assigned to the 15,000th detachment of the Prince of Orange [2] .

On August 29, the Austrians opened the first parallel (a special trench to ensure the siege of the fortress), after which the bombing of the fort began [2] .

When the laying of the third parallel was completed, the commandant of the Le Canois fortress surrendered, not waiting just three days before the arrival of the French detachment hastening to the rescue [2] (this detachment was soon defeated at the battle of Avens-les-Sectes [3] ).

The very next year, the parties switched places and Le Canois experienced another siege, as a result of which the French again captured the city [2] .
