Biography
Born on October 8, 1972.
In 1989, he graduated from boarding school No. 45 at Leningrad State University (LSU) [2] .
In 1998 - defended his thesis on diophantine representations of numerical sequences (supervisor - Yu. V. Matiyasevich ).
From 2002 to 2005 - worked as a postdoc at the University of Cambridge.
In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation, which was devoted to Hurwitz and (2,3) -bounded matrix groups.
In January 2016, he was awarded the title of Professor of the RAS [3] .
In October 2016, he was elected a corresponding member of the RAS for the Department of Mathematical Sciences .
Deputy Director for Science, St. Petersburg Branch of the Mathematical Institute V. A. Steklova (POMI RAS), Professor, Department of Higher Algebra and Number Theory, Mathematics and Mechanics Department, St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), Professor, Department of Mathematical and Information Technologies, St. Petersburg National Research Academic University (SPbAU RAS).
Scientific activity
Specialist in algebra and number theory.
Research interests: problems of effective generation in Chevalley groups, Diophantine representations.
The main scientific results:
- solved the problem of generating complete and special linear groups over the ring of integers by involution and an element of order 3;
- found new examples of finite groups that are not (2,3) -generated, including examples among finite simple groups;
- matrix Hurwitz groups of small dimensions are investigated; for dimensions less than 8, sets of Hurwitz generators and the groups generated by them are completely classified;
- new series of matrix Hurwitz groups were found;
- a new method for constructing matrix Hurwitz generators was developed; improved lower bounds on the rank of finite special linear groups for which it is possible to prove their Hurwitz property;
- Chapman's conjecture and a polynomial analogue of the Erdшаs-Woods conjecture are proved;
- Diophantine representations with 8 variables for infinite sets of primes are constructed; the indicated number of variables remains a record to date.
The author of 38 scientific papers.
Member of the editorial board of the journal “Notes of scientific seminars of POMI RAS”, member of the academic council of POMI RAS, member of the board of the St. Petersburg Mathematical Society .
