USSR Indoor Track and Field Championship 1978

The USSR Indoor Track and Field Championship 1978 was held March 1 - 3 in Moscow at the Spartak winter stadium . Over 3 days, 25 sets of medals were played.

Two-time champion of the country was Tatyana Anisimova , who won both barrier distances, 60 and 100 meters, with new all-Union achievements (8.23 and 13.28, respectively).

Two victories in the competition were also won by Nikolay Kolesnikov (60 and 100 meters) and Vyacheslav Kulebyakin (60 and 110 meters with barriers). The result of Kolesnikov at a distance of 100 meters (10.45) and Kulebyakin at 110 meters with barriers (13.74) became the new records of the country.

The highest world achievement in walking 10,000 meters was set by Evgeny Evsyukov - 40.24.0.

Nadezhda Marinenko became the first Soviet high jumper to take 1.90 m in indoor competitions.

In the 2000 meters hurdle race, Vladimir Filonov (5.28.0) set a new national record, ahead of silver medalist Sergei Skripka by just 0.2 seconds.

19-year-old Vladimir Yashchenko became the silver medalist in the high jump with a score of 2.26 m, losing to Alexander Grigoryev only in the attempts made. And in less than two weeks he won the European Indoor Championship with the best result in world history - 2.35 m.

The USSR indoor all-around championship was held separately on March 2–4, 1978 in Kharkov .

USSR All-Around Championship

Champions of the country in all-around decided on March 2-4, 1978 in Kharkov in the new athletics arena KhTZ . The championship for the first time was separate from the main championship. Konstantin Akhapkin and Nadezhda Karjakina set new all-Union records, 5823 points and 4398 points respectively [1] .
