Story
In 1846, in the Lower Manhattan area of the Five Corners , a clash occurs between gangs of “native” Americans and immigrants who settled in New York not so long ago. During this fight, at the hands of the leader of the “indigenous” Bill “Butcher” Cutting ( Daniel Day-Lewis ), the “Priest” immigrant leader Wallon ( Liam Neeson ), an Irishman by birth, dies. Wallon's young son, Amsterdam ( Leonardo DiCaprio ), ends up in a correctional facility, from where he leaves only after 16 years.
He returns to his area, driven by a desire to avenge the death of his father. But very quickly he realizes that he won’t be able to do it alone - getting to Cutting is not so easy. By chance, Amsterdam comes across a friend from a distant childhood - Johnny Cirocco ( Henry Thomas ), who helps him rub his confidence in The Butcher. So he gets the opportunity to kill his enemy, and decides to commit his revenge in front of everyone at the time of celebrating the next anniversary of the victory of the “indigenous”. But they betray him: the plan of revenge fails. Suddenly, Cutting does not kill Amsterdam, but only brutally beats, leaving a scar on his face with a red-hot knife. Barely surviving Amsterdam decides to bring old Irish gangs together and challenge Cutting ...
