Smooth-headed ( lat. Alepocephaliformes ) - a detachment of ray-finned fish . Distributed in all oceans. Many species are deep sea.

One dorsal fin shifted to caudal peduncle. Adipose fin and swim bladder no. Teeth on the upper jaw are available (with the exception of Leptochilichthys ). The maxillary bones are one or two. Painted in dark colors.
Three families with 32 genera and 137 species are distinguished in the order of smooth-headed ones [1] :
- Platytroctidae - Platitroctidae [2] , 13 genera and 39 species
- Bathylaconidae - Batilacoeva [2] , one genus and three species
- Alepocephalidae - Smooth- headed , 18 genera and 95 species
