Biography
Engaged in music since 8 years. After graduating from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 1974, she continued her studies under the leadership of Karlheinz Zeller and Orel Nicolas .
She received the first prize of three international competitions: in Belgrade (1974), Geneva (1978) and Munich (1979).
From 1977 to 1987, he was the main flute player of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Rafael Kubelik and Sir Colin Davis . She has performed with many distinguished groups, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra , the German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of Bremen, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the St. Martin Academy in the fields .
She has successfully toured in most countries of Europe , in the USA , Taiwan , Korea , Japan and Australia , performing solo concerts. Since 1981, regularly performs at the Lockenhaus festival. In 1995, she was invited to the Salzburg Festival .
For many years he has been performing a duet with harpist Maria Graf.
Since October 1987 - professor at the Salzburg Conservatory - Mozarteum ( Austria ).
Irena Grafenauer is the only musician - laureate of the Franze Preshern Prize (2005).
She was awarded the Golden Order of Liberty (Slovenia).
