History
The pavilion was built in 1952-1954 under the name "Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic" according to the design of architects A. Ya. Aivars, V. I. Zakis and K. Ya. Pluksne . It occupies a central place in the composition of the square of the Baltic republics, created during the post-war reconstruction of the exhibition, when separate pavilions were created for the republics of the Baltic instead of the one that existed before the war. The main facade of the building is framed by a portico with 12 columns, which are grouped in pairs. The windows of the main facade were originally filled with stained glass windows with landscapes of Latvian cities and plots on agricultural themes; according to the technique they looked like stained glass windows at the Novoslobodskaya metro station ; to this day they have not survived. At the main entrance to the pavilion - carved wooden doors, which were originally decorated with amber (decorations have not been preserved) [2] [3] [4] .
The first exhibition of the pavilion was devoted to the culture, agriculture and industry of the Latvian SSR . In particular, models of electric trains of the Riga Carriage Works , cars of the RAF , furniture and textile products were exhibited in the pavilion. In 1964, during the transition of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements to the branch principle, the pavilion was named “Physics”, with a corresponding change in exposure [2] [3] .
Prior to the beginning of the restoration, the pavilion was occupied by the public organization “ League of Nation's Health ” and its information and consulting center, which includes the Public Health Center, the Center for Support of Non-Profit Organizations, the Congress Center and the Exhibition Center [5] . In the course of repair and restoration work, the pavilion is planned to return both the historical architectural appearance and the original purpose of the museum and exhibition [4] .
