Tate Wilkinson ( born Tate Wilkinson ; October 27, 1739 - November 16, 1803 ) is an English actor and theater figure.

Biography
Born in the family of a clergyman. He studied at Harrow School .
His first attempts at performing on stage failed. Pupil S. Futa, in the plays of which he performed with success. Gained fame thanks to the wonderful gift of facial expressions . Successfully performed in London and Dublin , toured the provinces. He was very popular on provincial stages, playing Shakespearean characters.
Parodist . However, his skits often insulted prominent actors and theatrical figures, whose features he successfully copied, among them D. Garrick , R. Sheridan and others, who, delighted with the imitation of others, were themselves among his most evil detractors, and threatened him with reprisal.
In 1766, T. Wilkinson became Joseph Baker's partner in managing several Yorkshire theaters. After the death of a partner in 1770, he became the sole and successful director of several theaters. The Leeds Theater, built according to his design in 1771, was one of them.
In 1769, Tate Wilkinson bought a royal patent, giving the right to call the theater in York royal, and some other privileges. T. Wilkinson, besides the Royal York Theater, owned several more in different cities. He owned one of the leading provincial theater companies, which allowed him to attract the best actors of his time to his theaters.
T. Wilkinson enjoyed a good reputation as a manager . For more than 30 years he led spectacular enterprises in York , where famous English actors began their stage activities ( E. Farren , D. Jordan , R. Kemble, C. Matthews, S. Siddons and others).
T. Wilkinson is the author of the books Memoirs (Memoirs, 1790) and The Wandering Owner of the Theater (Wandering patentee, 1795).
