Biography
Born in Kiev in the family of a watchmaker .
At seventeen he entered as a volunteer at Kiev University and was admitted to the Kiev Conservatory .
In 1899, his poem was first published in the Kiev Word Word newspaper. In Kiev, he worked as a poet and journalist until 1904.
From June 1904 to May 1905 he was a war correspondent for a number of newspapers on the Russian-Japanese front .
The author of articles and feuilleton on literature, music, theater and bibliography. He was published as a poet and journalist in Pyatigorsk Echo, Kiev News, Kiev Thought , Magazine for All , World of Art , etc.
He spent 1908 and 1909 in St. Petersburg. He worked in the " Bulletin of Europe ", "Modern World", " Education ", "Rosehip" and others.
Then he lived in Moscow. He was published in a number of literary collections and almanacs: “Pearls of Russian Poetry”, “Winok” (in memory of T. G. Shevchenko ), “Reader-reciter”, “Creativity”, etc., in the theater weekly “Kulisy”, weekly “Life of Art” ". The author of the collection of poems “Flicker” (Book Publishing House “Graphics”. M: 1912), translations from Goethe (included in Goethe’s collected works edited by A. E. Gruzinsky. M: 1913).
Knowing several European languages, fluent in versification, he worked hard on translations. Collaborating with V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko during his creation of the musical theater, he wrote new librettos for the first performances of the Moscow Art Theater’s Music Studio (since 1926 - the Musical Theater named after People's Artist of the Republic, V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko) - “Daughter of Madame Ango " S. Lekoka (1920) and" Perikola "by J. Offenbach (1922)," Johnny " E. Kshenek (1926 together with Gerken).
He wrote the new libretto of the operetta “Seller of Birds” by Zeller and “The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein” Offenbach (1934, 1937 Moscow Operetta Theater ), “Beautiful Elena” (1937 Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater), and the libretto of the opera “Shah Senem” Gliere (1927 Akhundov Opera and Ballet Theater , Baku ), new text of the musical comedy The Straw Hat by Eugene Labisch and Mark Michel (1927 Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater, 1938 Moscow Operetta Theater, 1939 Theater. Eug. Vakhtangov ), the original libretto, "The Son of the Sun" Glier (1929 Pain second theater ), the new text of the opera " Lakme " by Delibes (1930 Bolshoi Theater), " Un Ballo in Maschera " by Verdi (Leningrad Bolshoi Opera), the libretto of the ballet "Tricorne" Vasilenko and De Faye for Musical Theater. He made new translations for drama theaters: Goldoni's “ Servant of Two Masters ”, Moliere's “ Tartuffe ” [3] , Benavente 's Game of Interest (1941 Maly Theater ), Laurencia (Sheep Spring) Lope de Vega , Uriel Acosta " Gutskova ," Piggy Bank "Lyabish," Two Veronets " Shakespeare and others.
He was a member of the Moscow literary circle "Wednesday" , the Moscow literary and artistic circle, the Union of Artists ALATR, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR .
Mikhail Halperin died in Moscow on October 3, 1944. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery .
