Located in the south of the historical region of Bohemia , 28 km north of České Budějovice at the mouth of the Lužnice River at the confluence of the Vltava River.

History
The name of the city comes from the word Tyn , which in the Middle Ages meant a fence, fortified or fenced place above the river. Vltava.
The first written mention of Tin nad Vltavou dates back to 1229. In the second half of the 13th century, a new settlement center appeared, called Nowy Tin.
