On September 18, 2016 he was elected as a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the seventh convocation as part of the federal list of candidates nominated by the United Russia All-Russian Political Party ^[2] . He teaches at the Department of Criminal Procedure Law of Moscow State Law Academy .

On October 5, 2016, at the first meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VII convocation, he was elected chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, co-chairman of the committee for the consideration of federal budget spending aimed at ensuring national defense, national security and law enforcement. ^[3]

December 8, 2018, on the basis of a decision taken by delegates of the XVIII Congress of the United Russia political party, Vasily Piskaryov was included in the party’s High Council ^[4] .

From 2016 to 2019, during the term of office of a deputy of the State Duma of the VII convocation, he co-authored 39 legislative initiatives and amendments to draft federal laws ^[5] .

In 2014, the first deputy chairman of the Investigative Committee, Vasily Piskarev, gained fame working on the “ GTA gang ” - as part of the investigation, he had to institute proceedings against the procurator of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Alexei Staroverov, and, from that moment, come into conflict with the “right hand” prosecutor general Chaika Victor Greenem ^[7] . As a result, according to the correspondent of Novaya Gazeta ^[8] Olga Romanova , the following events occurred:

After the detention of Staroverov, a long-standing opponent of the prosecutor’s office, the UK , became excited . Several attempts were made to initiate a criminal case against Staroverov (from Article 317 of the Criminal Code “Attack on the Life of a Law Enforcement Officer” to Article 222 of the Criminal Code “Illegal Arms Trafficking”), but the Prosecutor General’s Office defended his colleague ( Victor Grin , Deputy Prosecutor General, personally canceled the decision to institute criminal proceedings against Staroverov). As a result, Staroverov escaped with resignation and became an "entrepreneur." And the deputy chairman of the UK, Vasily Piskarev, who personally insisted on initiating a criminal case and arrest Staroverov, was sent to deputy in the State Duma (a slightly more honorable resignation), where he now heads the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption.

In 2013, Vasily Piskarev was unable to bring Chechen werewolf militiamen to justice ^[9] ; Piskarev was also accused of friendly relations with some criminalized ^[10] politicians, including Vadim Potomsky ^[11] .
