One of the oldest and most influential representatives of the music movement Nueva canción . Formed in the mid-1960s, the group became inextricable with the revolution that took place in the country's popular music under the government of Salvador Allende . They are the first performers of the song El pueblo unido jamás será vencido . After the overthrow of Allende and the seizure of power by a military junta led by Pinochet, the musicians became one of the mouthpieces of the protest against the dictatorship. Since its foundation and over fifty years of its history both in Chile and during the long period of exile to France, the group has undergone changes in its composition, as well as in the subject and content of its work. Disputes over the irreconcilable differences between the current and former directors of the team led to the division into two different groups - in Chile (Quilapayún-Histórico) and in France (Quilapayún-France).
