Military cemetery in Szczyperno ( Polish: Ukraiński Cmentarz Wojskowy w Kaliszu , Ukrainian: Ukrainian viskisky tsvintar ) is a military cemetery located in the housing estate of Szczyperno in Kalisz , in Poland .

History

It was founded in 1914 as a cemetery of prisoners in a Prussian prison camp for prisoners of war from the Entente (Russian, English and French). In 1917, Polish legionnaires who died in the camp were also buried.

During the Soviet-Polish war, burials were carried out (1919-1921) of the dead captured Red Army soldiers in camp No. 5 in Shchiperno . Also in 1920-1924. - deceased fighters of anti-Bolshevik Ukrainian and White Guard formations, which the authorities of the Polish Republic interned in the same camp.

Since 1929, a military cemetery. In 1945, it was destroyed. It was restored in 1995-2001, reopened in 1999, and since then it has been called the Ukrainian Military Cemetery (Ukraiński Cmentarz Wojskowy).

As of 1997, at least 1 mass grave of the Red Army prisoners who had died was preserved [1] . Basically, the burial places of internees from the UPR army were preserved, on the basis of which the Ukrainian military cemetery in Kalish-Shchiperno was formed [2] .
