The Welsh Mark ( born Welsh Marches , Wall. Y Mers ) is the traditional name for areas on the border of Wales and England .
At different times, the Welsh brand included different territories. The major cities of the Welsh brand were Gloucester , Hereford , Chester , Shrewsbury , Wrexham , Ludlow .
Etymology
The English word march in the meaning of “border” comes from the old French word march (“border”, “frontier”), then from the French * marka , or some other German word (cf. Old High German marcon (“mark”, “delimit”) , German Mark ("border"), English mark ("mark")) [1] .
