He graduated from the Nigerian (Bachelor of Science, best at university, 1986). In the Norwegian University of Bergen, he received master's and Ph.D. degrees in economics (respectively 1993 and 1996).

Since 1995, he also worked at the Canadian University of British Columbia (UBC), where since 2006 he has been an associate, and since 2010 a full professor, and in 2008-2013. at the same time headed the Fisheries Center. UBC is one of the most cited scholars [3] .
