Billetera Index

Billeter index ( German: Billeter J ) is a demographic index that reflects the age composition of the population. The index was proposed in 1954 by the Swiss demographer Ernst Biller. The index characterizes the ratio of the proportion of the population younger than reproductive age (0-14 years) and older than reproductive age (50 years and older) per 100 people of the population of reproductive age (15-49 years old). It is calculated as the ratio of the difference in the number of people aged 0-14 years and 50 years and older to the population aged 15-49 years. The index takes on positive values ​​when the share of children in the total population is greater than the share of people over 50 years old. And, on the contrary, it takes negative values ​​when the proportion of people over 50 is larger than the proportion of children ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} .
