History
An elevator made of monolithic reinforced concrete with a capacity of 41 thousand tons was built in 1930 in accordance with the first five-year plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR . At the time of commissioning, it was one of the largest elevators in the USSR and Europe (and the third largest elevator in the world) [1] .
During the operations of the Great Patriotic War and during the German occupation, the enterprise was damaged, but the landing of the 384th separate battalion of the marine corps landed on March 26, 1944 in the port of Nikolaev prevented the Germans from destroying the elevator. Subsequently, the enterprise was restored and resumed operation.
In accordance with the ninth five-year plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR, the elevator was expanded: after the commissioning in 1972 of two silos with a total capacity of 28 thousand tons, the total working capacity of the elevator increased to 69 thousand tons.
After the independence of Ukraine, the elevator was transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Ukraine .
In March 1995, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine included the elevator in the list of enterprises whose privatization is prohibited due to their national importance [2] .
After the establishment of the state-owned joint-stock company "Bread of Ukraine" in August 1996, the elevator became a subsidiary of SJSC "Bread of Ukraine" [3] .
After the creation of the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine on August 11, 2010, the elevator was included in the enterprises of the State Pharmacological Plant of Ukraine [4] .
In April 2013, the SFGCU announced its intention to upgrade the Nikolaev port elevator with an increase in capacity [5] , in December 2013, work began on the construction of two car unloading complexes (which were planned to be completed in 2014 - 2015) [6] .
In December 2015, a 100-ton truck unloader equipped with truck scales was commissioned at the elevator [7] .
In 2016, automatic samplers manufactured by the Italian company "Stork" were installed on the elevator [8] .
Current status
The main functions of the enterprise are the reception, storage and shipment (including for export) of grain crops ( wheat and barley ), as well as oilseeds ( rapeseed and sunflower ) [1] .
The total working capacity of the elevator is 69 thousand tons [1] .
