Description

Small short-winged beetles are palps , body length less than 5 mm (the largest species of Awas gigas has a length of 4.79 to 5.12 mm). They have a specific elongated postorbital region of the head and a relatively small abdomen (stalked at the base) in contrast to the large body. The main color is reddish brown. Found in ant colonies. For example, the species Awas helii was found in the nests of ants Ectomomyrmex [2] , and the species Awas gigas was found in ants of the genus Pachycondyla in dead wood in a deciduous forest. Species A. giraffa , A. shunichii , A. sinicus, and A. kayan were found in the deciduous bedding layer, while species A. rajah and A. loebli were collected in a light trap [3] . The genus was first isolated in 1994 and included in the tribe Arnylliini from the supertribe Goniaceritae , as a sister to the genus Harmophorus Motschulsky . All Awas species are very rare and known either in a single copy ( A. giraffa , A. sinicus , A. kayan , A. loebli ), four ( A. rajah ) or five ( A. shunichii ) beetles [1] [3] .
