History

The name “Syromyatniki” became widespread in the 16th century after the formation of the Syromyatnic stable stable settlement on the right bank of the Yauza River , where artisans engaged in the manufacture of rawhide leather settled. The name was preserved after noble estates pressed the craft shops from the most picturesque high banks in the 18th century, and then at the beginning of the 19th century, merchants and industrialists began to buy out buildings to organize production. At the end of the 19th century, the Syromyatniki split the branch of the Moscow-Kursk railway , around which large factories grew. As a result of these changes in the Syromyatniki, an atypical neighborhood of large and small enterprises, parks and masterly houses was formed. The workers of Syromyatnikov participated in the disturbances of the events of 1905-1907 and 1917, in the Soviet years Syromyatniki (also given the short name "Cheeses") were a disadvantaged area with a large number of low-income residents and asocial elements. In the 2000s, as a result of gentrification, a number of industrial enterprises were organized in creative spaces with museums, offices and catering enterprises. A similar update was made by Moscow Bavaria, the Manometer plant and the Moscow Gas Plant [1] [2] :

  • At the beginning of the 19th century, the Volkonsky town estate was sold to the merchant Monin, who after 4 years resold it to the merchant Prokofiev, who in 1810 built a honey-brewery on its territory. In 1821, the manor passed to the Revel merchant of the 2nd guild, Friedrich Danielson, who established the Danielson & Crone Brewery there. In the 1840s, the estate and factory were transferred to William Watson and Peter Dreyer, in 1955 - to industrialist Vasily Alexandrovich Kokorev. In the middle of the XIX century the western part of the estate was cut off by the line of the Moscow-Kursk railway , and the brewery moved to the north of the site. In the 1870s - 1880s she transferred to the Russian Association of Beer and Medovar in Moscow "Moscow Bavaria". In Soviet times, production space was occupied by the production of wines, and in the modern period, the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art was opened in buildings [3] [4] [5] .
  • In 1866, tradesman Fyodor Hakental founded a factory in Syromyatniki to manufacture pressure gauges and valves, cast bronze, copper and cast iron. In the Soviet years, the company was nationalized and continued to operate as the Moscow instrument-making factory Manometer . In 2006, after the transfer of production in factory buildings, the Artplay design center was opened, where architectural offices, design studios, exhibition platforms, cafeterias and restaurants were located [5] .
  • The Moscow Gas Plant was built in Syromyatniki in the second half of the XIX century. Gas-holders were built on its territory according to the project of Rudolf Bernhard , production buildings with floors by engineer Vladimir Shukhov , office buildings and other buildings designed by Fyodor Dmitriev, Maxim Göppener , Nikolai Milyukov , Mikhail Stepanov Alexander Roop . Until the mid-20th century, the plant provided gas for Moscow, and then produced gas fittings. In the late 1990s, the company virtually ceased production and most of the premises were leased. Gradually, a cluster of companies from creative areas, bars and night clubs [5] [6] was formed on the territory of “Arma” (this company received its name in 1997).

The name "Syromyatniki" is preserved in the names of the Syromyatnichesky hydroelectric complex , Syromyatnichesky passage , Syromyatnicheskaya embankment , Upper , Lower and New Syromyatnichesky streets , 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th Syromyatnichesky lanes [1] [7] [8] .
